Wellingtons Jessica Leigh unveils dreamy new pop ballad, ‘Missing You’

A piano soaked in reverb is matched with Jessica’s gorgeous vocal tone, with delicate verses expanding into dreamy, but powerful choruses. ‘Missing You’ is heartfelt, vulnerable, and bittersweet; with spacious synth undercurrents sonically representing how it feels to miss somebody so deeply.

Recorded at Jessica’s home studio in Wellington, ‘Missing You’ was then mixed and mastered at Jules Evans’ home studio. Having previously co-produced tracks, ‘Missing You’ marks Jessica’s debut as a sole producer, showcasing the depth of talent in this rising artist.

Today’s release follows Jessica’s most recent single, the glittering pop track ‘WIRED’, which was produced by Josh Naley aka Wells* (Paige, NAVVY, Thomston, Foley, Luca George, Bridges) at Parachute Studios.

“The song details the experience of missing a long-distance partner, after moving to a new city to pursue your dreams,” explains Jessica. “It’s wondering if sacrificing the relationship for that pursuit was worth it.”

Hailing from Nelson, the now Wellington-based, Jessica’s songs are inspired by the technicolour, emotional spectrum of youth and the storytelling within them often depicts vibrant, visceral coming-of-age narratives, reflecting on themes such as young love, friendship, growing pains and everything in between. The young artist won a regional songwriting competition in 2019 and officially began releasing music shortly after. She released her debut EP 17 in 2020 and followed it up with a sophomore EP SUMMERLAND in 2021 and her soaring summer anthem ‘My Way’ in 2022.

Keep an eye out for more exciting music to come from this up-and-coming Wellington artist. With ‘Missing You’ showcasing her ability to write dreamy ballads, Jessica says “It’s nothing but glittery, synthy pop bops for the next little while!”
