Wax Mustang – Live @ Home Grown 2023
Wow, I love it when I discover new beats for my ears, Rapper Wax Mustang was one of those epiphanies at Homegrown this year.

He loves performing topless and has even played All Black Sam Cane’s wedding, not bad for a guy who has seen a fast meteoric rise in the Kiwi Rap/ Hip Hop scene.
If you’ve been grooving to the music at any of the major festivals up and down the country this Summer, there’s a good chance you’ve seen Wax Mustang doing his thing with his DJ Road Dog. Complete with his Super Rugby Highlanders tracky top Road Dog smokes it onstage as mate Wax chugs down the beersies while waxing lyrical about life & ‘bumble bees’.
If Duff Beer needed a theme song or brand ambassador, they couldn’t go past Wax. The guy has a presence onstage, and Spotify has clocked a few million hits and it looks to be trending up. Songs like Sunrise with that catchy Hall & Oates sample and clever lyrics, while Wax topless traipses the stage like a man on a mission, Road Dog spins the tunes behind a thin veil of smoke.
His lively persona and affable ‘slob hop’ styles are as refreshing as it comes, with tunes such as Bones and Honey delivered with fine machine gun precision, it’s guaranteed to get any fastidious beer and Rap aficionado head bobbing.
Check them out if they play at a venue near you, ‘Slob Hop’ could be the new genre in this new arena of Kiwi Hip Hop called Mustang World.
