Venice Harris powerful debut single, ‘Tug Of War’

Emerging pop artist Venice Harris has made her incredible debut into the Aotearoa music scene, with her emotive first single ‘Tug Of War’, out now.

A singer, actress and dancer with years of performing on stage and screen around the globe in award-winning musicals such as ‘Les Misérable’ and ‘Matilda The Musical’, in which she played the title role, Venice is adding songwriter and recording artist to her impressive list of skills with her debut single.

Slick pop production is matched with Venice’s intimate and warm vocal tone, with ‘Tug Of War’ moving seamlessly between delicate verses and open, soaring choruses. Her voice is breathtaking; effortlessly navigating complex vocal runs with the ease of a vocalist who has clearly honed her craft over the years.

“I have always loved singing big, emotional and intense songs,” explains Venice. “‘Tug Of War’ reflects the type of songs I’ve always loved listening to and singing.”

Tapping into the universal theme of the give and take, push and pull of a relationship, Venice wanted to “write a song with lyrics that could be perceived as a lot of different things, to resonate with everyone.” For her personally, though, the track is “more to do with the metaphor of struggling with myself, and my personal emotions.”

Recorded at Auckland’s own Parachute Studios, Venice co-wrote the track with New York producer Johnny Cummings, before having it mixed by Sam Polizzi in New York and mastered by Brad Blackwood.

“I love the intense vibe of the track; with its layers, instrumentation and backing vocals adding to its intensity,” says Venice. “This single definitely reflects where I’m heading as an artist, and the type of songs to expect from me in the future!”

Having performed on stage from an early age in the UK productions of ‘Annie’ and ‘The Sound of Music’ in Aotearoa, Venice went on to perform in Cameron Mackintosh’s award-winning musical ‘Les Miserable’ as ‘Young Eponine’ in Sydney and Brisbane, Australia, before landing the role of ‘Little Cosette’ for performances in Manila and Singapore. Touring with The Royal Shakespeare Company across Australasia, Venice played the title role in Tim Minchin’s award-winning ‘Matilda the Musical’ before heading straight into another lead role in “The Voice Of An Angel”, by Universal Studios Japan.

Get ready for more to come from this gorgeous debut artist; ‘Tug Of War’ has an accompanying video set for release in the coming weeks, and there’s a second single in the pipeline. Venice Harris is without a doubt one to keep on your radar!
