RAY LESLIE serves up new track ‘DOG DAYS’

Ray Leslie, a twenty-four-year young creative with a buzz cut and razor-focused determination, delivers ‘Dog Days’ hot on the heels of her chill cathartic single ‘Blue Cold’, released last month. Ray’s unique flow and distinctive cadence is earning her a solid reputation in the alt-hip-hop underground scene, as her rapping style and lyrical skills reveal an ear attuned to rhythm and a mind sensitive to flow.

A minimal and lo-fi aural delight, at its core ‘Dog Days’ is a sparse skeleton of a tune. But its deceptively delicate vibe is an artful smokescreen, which belies the hefty lyrical content carried on its slight musical frame. With ‘Dog Days’, Ray allows her assertive flow to do the heavy-lifting, as she details a deeply dark time of exhaustive emotional tumult, that without the love and support of good friends and family, can all too often lead to a critical breaking point.

Says Ray: ‘Dog Days’ was birthed during a season in my life where so much was happening, and I was dealing with such inner turmoil that it felt like I had no control. I was driving home after working a ten-hour shift, finishing at midnight, and I was plagued by dark thoughts passing through the motorway. I got home, sat down at my desk and wrote this within an hour. The words, “You want me to bark to make noise?” is me saying, “Do I really need to do something drastic or extreme to acknowledge that I’m in pain right now?”

Produced by regular collaborators Yong Kweon and Dnny Do, mixed and mastered by John Garcia, the video for ‘Dog Days’ was filmed and edited by Luke Park with assistance by Yong.

A dynamic, versatile performer with enviable lyrical flair, Ray’s unique flow is earning her kudos within the alt-hip-hop underground music scene as she connects for collabs with a myriad of like-minded and talented peers. This ambitious and prolific creative is planting her next steps with precision and determination as she pursues her musical dreams. No stranger to the hustle, this is just the beginning for Ray.

Watch out for her new EP DAWN due for release next Friday 18 November, and join Ray Leslie and the Light Beings collective to celebrate its release the following Thursday at Anthology Lounge with fellow emerging hip-hop acts AUGUZT and Dnny Do.
