MELODOWNZ – Avondale has spawned a hip-hop storyteller of note in Melodownz who is being recognised nationwide for his fresh gritty style. Quickly on his way to becoming New Zealand’s favourite rapper Whangamata is chuffed to welcome Melo to the New Years Eve party of 2017. The solo project of Bronson Price from YGB’s Third3ye, Melodownz’s music flips from raw tales of the street to love and heartbreak. Check out “The Anthem”
CYMBOL – Cymbol’s unique, upbeat and percussion-influenced melodic sound has already seen him sway the spotlight – picking up slots at renowned festivals such as Rhythm & Vines and Homegrown. He’s a producer that’s always stood out from the pack and while progressive house meets sensible indie rock may at first seem like an unlikely collaboration, it works to create exceptional hook driven electronic tunes for Cymbol. Get a taste of what to expect from Cymbol and listen to “Slipping”
L.A.WOMAN – L.A. WOMAN whose members include Jake, Zac and Jesse. Their debut single, “Hurricane Love,” recently premiered worldwide and it’s a real doozy. It’s shaping up as something really special. This is a very talented bunch who have created a mood inspired masterpiece in “Hurricane Love”. They may well be new on your radar but their live performance maturity is already sending all the right signals. They may in fact need time for 2 shows on NYE so don’t be late as they appear in Whangamata early on the bill.
ALIEN WEAPONRY – They will blow up all over your ears, Alien Weaponry are a thrash metal band with a difference: they sing in Maori. This is a story you need to hear….Listen to Alien Weaponry here. Lead singer and guitarist Lewis de Jong (15), and his brother Henry (17), drummer for the band, are of Ngati Pikiao and Ngati Raukawa tribal descent and attended a full immersion Maori language school until they were seven. Lewis wrote his first song when he was two, although he admits that those early numbers “weren’t quite as good as our current songs.” They formed Alien Weaponry when they were eight and ten years old and were later joined by Ethan Tremblath after meeting at primary school. In looking to provide a wide cross section of music and talent AW were a must to give this Whangamata NYE some “on the edge” flavour. They will be opening the show so whatever you do get there early and don’t miss Alien Weaponry.
