Authentic 1960s Rogers Kit Recorded at the Silent Stage
Vienna Symphonic Library (VSL) has announced the release of Studio Jazz Drums, a new addition to its acclaimed Studio Series. Recorded at the company’s Silent Stage facility, the library features a meticulously captured Rogers drum set from the 1960s, delivering the timeless character and nuance of classic jazz drumming.
Powered by the Vienna Synchron Player and enhanced with the intuitive Flow View, Studio Jazz Drums offers fast, flexible access to articulations, microphone positions, playing zones, and reverb settings. The result is a versatile tool for composers and producers seeking authentic jazz grooves or creative rhythmic textures across a wide range of genres.
At the heart of the collection is a customized Rogers kit, paired with a Paiste 2002 signature snare prototype and vintage Avedis Zildjian cymbals. Every element was recorded with exceptional attention to detail, capturing multiple sticks, brushes, and mallet techniques across all playing zones.

Studio Jazz Drums offers a wide variety of playing techniques: single strokes, rim shots, flams, ruffs, rolls, press rolls, stick-on-stick, and cross-stick variations, with multiple repetition patterns for natural flow. The extensive brush set features tip, tap, flat, legato, and bouncing strokes, as well as a wide palette of swishes – from circles to samba grooves. Special focus was given to the ride cymbal, the heartbeat of countless jazz pieces, responding dynamically to tempo, velocity, playing zone, and the number of times the cymbal was already hit. The result is a performance that feels dynamic, expressive, and unmistakably real.
With thoughtfully designed Mixer Presets ranging from “natural” to “jazz club” to even a rock vibe, users can instantly shape the sound to fit their project. Using convolution and algorithmic reverbs, these presets transport the dry, pristine recordings of the Silent Stage into a wide variety of acoustic spaces. With included MIDI loops for sticks and brushes, users can dive straight into authentic grooves at a mouse click or create their own unique phrasing with ease
