UJAM has announced Virtual Drummer Neon, the latest addition to its virtual drummer range. Designed for contemporary pop, disco, dance and electronic productions, Neon combines the punch and precision of electronic drums with the dynamics and groove of a human performance.

The instrument draws inspiration from the sound and production techniques of 1970s disco, including artists such as Chic and The Bee Gees. Its rhythm engine is designed to bring a sense of movement and variation to programmed drum parts, helping productions retain the feel of a live performance.

Vintage Kits, Modern Production

Rather than relying solely on the sound of electronic drum machines, UJAM recorded five original vintage drum kits from manufacturers including Ludwig and Rogers.

The kits were captured in a small booth using period-appropriate microphones and outboard equipment, resulting in sounds that are described as dry, tight and punchy.

Virtual Drummer Neon also includes six mix presets, providing a range of tonal options from “snappy and dry” through to “crunchy and slammed”.

Virtual Drummer Neon is aimed at producers who want the consistency and control of programmed drums without losing the natural movement associated with a live drummer. Its combination of vintage acoustic kits, disco-inspired rhythms and modern production controls makes it suitable for everything from contemporary pop and dance tracks to electronic productions.

The plug-in runs on Windows 10 or later and macOS 11 or later, with VST2, VST3, AU and AAX versions available.
