U-he has officially released Zebra 3, a comprehensive redesign of its long-standing “wireless modular” software synthesizer. Known for its flexibility and distinctive sound, Zebra returns with a modern interface, deeper synthesis options, and a refined workflow that feels both familiar and forward-thinking.
At its core, Zebra 3 keeps the recognizable four-lane patching grid, making it approachable for existing users. At the same time, every module has been rebuilt from the ground up, with drag-and-drop modulation and an adaptive interface that only shows what you need, when you need it. The result is a cleaner, more intuitive environment that encourages experimentation without overwhelming the user.
The synthesis engine itself has expanded significantly. Zebra 3 introduces spline-based morphing oscillators, advanced FM capabilities, and a wide collection of filters and resonators. These additions open up a broad sonic palette, from precise digital textures to organic, evolving tones. Support for MPE and micro tuning, including TUN files and MTS-ESP, ensures the instrument is ready for modern expressive workflows.

Key features include:
- Spline-based wavetable and additive oscillator with up to 16 morphable curves
- Dual rendering modes: wavetable with up to 16× unison, or additive with up to 1024 partials
- Spectral distortion tools for inharmonic and percussive sound design
- Extensive filter section with 105 responses across 13 models, including ladder, cascade, and state variable types
- Unified spline editor shared between oscillators and MSEGs, with copy and paste functionality
- FM oscillators with two operators plus audio input as a third operator
- Noise and exciter modules for transient shaping and physical modelling
- Modal resonators with more than 18 profiles, alongside comb filters with a polyphonic reverb mode
- Vector mixer for morphing between four sources with loopable XY motion
- Mod Math module for combining and transforming modulation signals
- Adaptive interface that dynamically displays active modules
- Over 1,200 factory presets for immediate inspiration

With its combination of depth and usability, Zebra 3 positions itself as both a powerful sound design tool and a practical everyday instrument. Whether you are building intricate patches from scratch or browsing presets for quick inspiration, it offers a workflow that supports both approaches.
Zebra 3 is available now for macOS, Windows, and Linux in CLAP, VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
