Brainworx has released the SPL Vitalizer Mk3-T, a plugin adaptation of the well-known SPL analog program equalizer. Long a staple in professional studios, the Vitalizer has been praised for its ability to enhance clarity, punch, and bass definition without introducing harshness.
The Mk3-T version aims to bring that same functionality into the digital domain for mix and mastering engineers.

Unlike conventional equalizers, the Vitalizer Mk3-T combines frequency shaping with bass processing, offering what Brainworx describes as a “mix finishing” tool. It’s designed to subtly enhance mixes, helping vocals become more articulate, instruments more distinct, and low-end more controlled—all without the side effects often associated with heavy processing. Engineers have used it for everything from final stereo bus work to individual tracks like vocals or drum busses.
The Mk3-T builds on the legacy of the gold-faced Mk2-T, incorporating new Brainworx modeling based on the updated SPL Studio Series Edition hardware. This hardware upgrade features a higher internal voltage (±18 V) for increased headroom, dynamic range, and sonic fidelity, now reflected in the plugin’s processing.

The plugin also adds several new features that weren’t present in the original hardware, including updated Tube Modeling, a Stereo Expander, LC-EQ, Mid/Side processing, and a Split Bass Mode. The latter allows users to manage “soft” and “tight” bass characteristics at the same time, providing precise low-end control even in complex mixes.
Interface-wise, the Vitalizer Mk3-T offers a scalable modern layout with workflow-focused options such as toggleable control panels and a switch to the legacy Mk2-T “gold” mode for users who prefer the older interface and processing style.
The original Vitalizer is widely regarded for its ability to de-mask overlapping frequencies, enhancing perceived detail and depth. With the Mk3-T, that processing philosophy is retained, giving mixes more separation and clarity while maintaining musicality in the low-end. For engineers looking to translate the classic SPL sound into a plugin environment, the Mk3-T provides both familiarity and new digital flexibility.
