Roland Corporation Introduces Roland AR – Augmented Reality for Pianos

Have you ever wondered what a full-size grand piano might look like in your lounge? Well, Roland may have the solution with the recently announced Roland AR augment reality.

Utilising LIDAR technology found in most modern smartphones, you can scan your room and incorporate true-to-scale virtual instruments from a selection of popular grand pianos from the GP, LX and FP series.

This service is fantastic for helping you make informed decisions about colour options, size, and placement of a new piano within your space. Users to take a virtual stroll around the instrument, gaining a comprehensive understanding of how it fits into their environment.

I had a little play with the service and it works really well, but unfortunately, you can’t import a virtual concert pianist to play for you, that part you’ll need to provide yourself.

Run from a browser, it’s easy to start using the software from your phone or tablet. The models have dynamic lighting and reflections, plus you can share your results on social media and, of course, directly order your new piano from a local dealer.
