Rockheyday has officially released Shine 4 v2.0, bringing a range of improvements to its high-resolution harmonic exciter, including a new licensing system, smoother interface controls and more efficient audio processing.
For existing Shine 4 customers, the update is available at no additional cost. Each existing customer receives a new license key with three personal activation seats. The key can be found in the original purchase receipt email or through the customer’s Gumroad account.
Once the new key has been retrieved, activation is simply a matter of entering it into Shine 4.
What’s New in Shine 4 v2.0
The v2.0 update focuses on both usability and performance, with several changes taking place behind the scenes.
Key improvements include:
- New license management system for simpler activation and license handling.
- Native DAW host bypass synchronisation, allowing Shine 4 to follow the host’s bypass state.
- Improved UI controls, including refinements to knob operation and parameter snapping.
- Optimised audio processing, with improvements to CPU cache efficiency.
- Three personal activation seats for existing customers with the new v2.0 license.
Harmonic Enhancement with Precision
Shine 4 is designed as a high-resolution digital exciter for controlled spectral enhancement and harmonic generation. Rather than simply adding broad high-frequency brightness, it provides more targeted control over where and how harmonic content is introduced.
The plugin uses stepped frequency control, allowing users to select frequencies from 1 kHz through 12 kHz, while four different Exciter models provide distinct approaches to harmonic generation: Silk, Tube, Tape and Sparkle.
A selectable Tone Mode offers Neutral, Dark and Bright options, providing another way to shape the resulting sound.
For users who like to see exactly what is happening to their signal, Shine 4 includes a real-time dual-layer FFT spectrum display. The analyser uses adaptive 4096 or 8192-point FFT processing, making it possible to monitor changes in the harmonic spectrum as adjustments are made.
The result is a plugin that can be used for relatively subtle clarity enhancement, as well as more obvious tonal coloration.
Designed to Stay CPU Efficient
One of the more unusual aspects of Shine 4 is the approach taken to its DSP and graphical interface.
Rockheyday says the DSP and GUI are written entirely in code, without relying on large image assets, SVGs or conventional skins. The aim is to keep the plugin lightweight while maintaining responsive controls and real-time analysis.
The processing architecture is intended to remain practical in larger sessions, where multiple instances of an effect can quickly add up.
Users can independently test the plugin’s performance using the Performance analysis function in DDMF Plugin Doctor, providing a straightforward way to assess CPU behaviour within a controlled testing environment.

Free Demo Available
For anyone who has not used Shine 4 before, Rockheyday offers a free demo version. It provides an opportunity to explore the exciter’s processing, interface and harmonic models before purchasing.
The demo has two limitations:
- Saving and project recall features are disabled.
- Sessions are limited to 20 minutes. Reloading the plugin by removing and re-inserting it resets the timer.
Shine 4 v2.0 is available now, with the update ready for existing customers through their purchase receipt or Gumroad account.
Pricing and availability: Shine 4 v2.0 is available now, with a free demo version also available. Further information and additional audio tools can be found in the Rockheyday Collection.
