Introducing Sophie Mashlan
Sophie Mashlan has spent the better part of the last two years establishing herself as one of the most evocative new singer-songwriters on the indie alt-folk scene.
Now, the 19-year-old is poised to make it official, with the release her highly anticipated debut single ‘Let You Down’, out on Friday, November 23. A captivating song that serves to support the hype surrounding Sophie, the single precedes her debut full-length album set for release in 2019.
It also coincides with the announcement that Sophie will be supporting renowned Californian musician Donavon Frankenreiter on his upcoming New Zealand tour, which kicks off in Wellington at San Fran on Tuesday, November 27. See all dates below.
Sophie will also feature on the showcase, ‘You’re The Future Of Music’, at Anthology Lounge in Auckland on Wednesday, November 7 alongside artists Shelita Burke (US), IVY RED (NZ), and Anderson Rocio (NZ/US).
Today’s announcements are the culmination of an exciting few years for the young singer-songwriter from Auckland, whose sound is steeped largely in folk, but also shines with a unique and refreshing blend of pop, indie and alternative.
Sophie has rapidly gained attention thanks to her avid love for performing live. At just 17, she single-handedly organised her own national tour. She has also played numerous events, such as the Auckland Folk Festival; as well as opening for major artists including Vance Joy, Graham Candy and Joshua Radin.
