Genelec, the global leader in professional studio monitoring, has announced the launch of the 8380A three-way midfield SAM Main Monitor, the latest addition to The Main Ones family.
Joining the larger 8381A, the new 8380A is built for engineers and producers demanding the utmost in clarity, accuracy, and SPL performance for medium-sized control rooms, mixing suites, mastering environments, and premium home studios.
Precision, Power, and Pure Performance
At the heart of the 8380A is a highly linear 380 mm (15”) woofer combined with Genelec’s patented MDC™ (Minimum Diffraction Coaxial) midrange-tweeter technology. The result is a monitor with exceptional dynamics, high SPL capability, and extremely low self-noise.
Time-aligned playback and advanced directivity control ensure stable imaging and phase coherence, allowing engineers to work fatigue-free for hours. Even at close distances, the 8380A maintains uncolored, consistent clarity, inspiring confidence at any playback level.

Designed for Real-World Studio Integration
The 8380A enclosure uses dual forward-facing reflex ports, delivering tight, distortion-free low-end even at the highest output levels. This makes it ideal for soffit-mounted installations. Genelec’s familiar DCW (Directivity Control Waveguide) integrates the coaxial midrange-tweeter driver, ensuring smooth, neutral sound both on- and off-axis.
With excellent time-domain performance, low latency, and phase alignment across the Genelec range, the 8380A can be freely combined with other models in the 8300 Series, The Ones, or The Main Ones systems.
Power Meets Sustainability
Driving the system is Genelec’s new RAM-L2 power amplifier module, a fanless, zero-noise design featuring:
- 500 W Class D amp for the woofer
- 250 W Class D amp for the midrange
- 200 W Class AB amp for the tweeter
The amplifier also integrates Genelec’s ISS (Intelligent Signal Sensing) for smart power management and ultra-low idle consumption, aligning with the company’s commitment to sustainable design.
Technical specs include:
- Frequency response: 29 Hz – 43 kHz
- Max short-term SPL: 122 dB
- Self-generated noise: 0 dB SPL
Importantly, the 8380A shares the same physical footprint as Genelec’s classic 1038 and 1238 three-way monitors, making it a seamless upgrade path for long-time users of those models.
Intelligent Monitoring with SAM and GLM
As part of Genelec’s Smart Active Monitoring (SAM) family, the 8380A integrates directly with GLM (Genelec Loudspeaker Manager) software, which calibrates and controls the entire system. GLM analyses the room’s acoustics, compensates for problematic frequencies, and ensures mixes translate perfectly across other systems—whether in stereo, surround, or immersive formats.
GLM’s new GRADE room report adds even deeper insight, providing a comprehensive analysis of monitoring performance with actionable advice for acoustic treatment, positioning, and bass management optimization.
A Modern Classic in the Making
“For many years, our legacy 1038 and 1238 monitors have been embraced by mid-sized studios looking for accurate, high-SPL reproduction,” said Siamäk Naghian, Genelec Managing Director. “With the success of the 8381A five-way main monitor, we saw the opportunity for a more compact three-way design that delivers the same next-generation coaxial precision in a traditional flush-mount format. The 8380A fills that role beautifully, offering world-class performance for both professional studios and discerning home users.”
Global Launch Events
Following its online unveiling, the 8380A will appear at a range of international events, beginning with Beatcon and Tonmeistertagung in Germany, with many more planned throughout 2025 and beyond.
